Plain-language summary: Certo reads the utility bill you upload and gives you a plain-English breakdown. It's free, it doesn't sign you up for anything, and it doesn't change your energy supplier. If you choose to save your report, we keep the bill data we extracted and your contact info so you can look it up later. The details are below.

1. What Certo is

Certo ("we," "us," "our") operates a website that lets you upload a copy of your electric or gas utility bill and receive an automated, plain-language explanation of the charges on it. Certo is an informational tool. It does not act as your energy broker, does not negotiate rates on your behalf, and does not enroll you with any utility or energy supplier.

2. Who can use Certo

You must be at least 18 years old and have the legal right to upload the bill you submit — for example, because it's your own bill or you're authorized to act on behalf of the business or household it belongs to.

3. How the analysis works

When you upload a bill, we send the file to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to extract the figures on it — usage, rates, charges, supplier information, and similar. Certo then applies its own scoring and explanation logic to that extracted data. This process is automated. It is not reviewed by a person before it's shown to you, and it can make mistakes — always confirm important figures against your actual bill before making a decision based on them.

4. No professional advice

Certo's output is informational only and is not financial, legal, or professional energy-consulting advice. We don't guarantee any particular rate, savings amount, or outcome. Nothing on this site is an offer to buy, sell, or switch your energy service.

5. Saving a report and your account

Saving a report is optional and requires a password. If you choose to save one, we store the bill data extracted from your upload, the name, email, and phone number you provide, and a securely hashed (never plaintext) copy of the password you set, so that you can look the report up again later by entering the same email and password. We do not store your password in a readable form, and we can't recover it for you if you forget it — you'd need to save a new report. Choose a password you don't reuse for anything sensitive.

Separately, every bill you upload — even if you never save a report — is retained on our backend in extracted, structured form so we can improve accuracy and keep an operational record of bills processed. Section 1 of our Privacy Policy has more detail on this.

6. Referrals to third parties

Certo may, now or in the future, offer to connect you with a licensed energy broker or supplier for a rate comparison. We will never share your information with such a partner without your clear action to request it (for example, clicking a "get a rate comparison" button). Certo may receive a referral fee from partners for such introductions — this does not change what you pay.

7. Acceptable use

Don't use Certo to upload documents that aren't utility bills, to try to overload or abuse the upload system, or to attempt to access other users' saved reports without authorization.

8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Certo is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Certo is not liable for any decision you make based on its output, or for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of Certo after a change means you accept the updated terms.
